On July 11, 2023, Daniel Larson, experienced a severe meltdown inside a Walmart store. This incident, occurring around 1:30 PM MST, following the conclusion of what has come to be known as the “Dog Arc.” Just days earlier, Daniel had fraudulently adopted a dog named Music (originally Zola) from the Longmont Humane Society, sparking significant outrage and concern among his followers and the broader community.
The situation escalated rapidly when Music was rescued from Daniel by an individual named Ween, who posed as a veterinarian. The dog was returned to the shelter on July 11, 2023. The rescue operation was part of a coordinated effort by members of the r/Daniellarson subreddit and other concerned parties, who feared for the dog’s safety due to Daniel’s inability to properly care for it.
Following the rescue, Daniel’s behavior became increasingly erratic. After a seven-hour absence from posting online, he reappeared with claims of being released from police custody and receiving new criminal charges. His community tab posts on YouTube detailed a harrowing account of self-injurious behavior and alleged rough treatment by Walmart security, resulting in visible injuries.
According to Daniel’s later phone call, leaked by YouTuber Goated Mines, his meltdown included causing approximately $2,000 worth of property damage, breaking a bus window, and destroying several appliances inside the store. Witnesses reported that Daniel had used a leash he bought for Music to crack the bus window, which was carrying senior citizens. This outburst was primarily triggered by the realization that his dog had been taken from him.
The incident was not immediately documented by bystanders or security cameras, making it lost media for a time. However, on February 28/29, 2024, police bodycam footage of the incident was recovered and posted to the r/Daniellarson subreddit, validating much of Daniel’s account. This footage showed Daniel being restrained by Walmart security, his subsequent meltdown, and the significant property damage caused during the episode.
