On November 6, 2017, Elisabeth Shimer, who was paralyzed and confined to a wheelchair, was suddenly and deliberately struck by her 18-year-old son, Daniel Larson. This altercation led to the authorities being called, resulting in Daniel’s first arrest. After being placed in police custody, Daniel was sentenced to 44-45 days in jail for assaulting his mother, just nine days before his 19th birthday.
This incident proves that Daniel’s violent behavior predating his online activities and highlights allegations of him frequently physically abusing his mother and grandmother. Following this event, Daniel was placed under the care of his grandmother, Nancy, once more.
The Charges

In an interview conducted on July 8, 2021, Daniel elaborated on the situation. At the beginning the video, he described his time with his parents as a “traumatizing experience,” claiming they “hit him with belts for 15 years,” and that his father, Travis Larson, forced him to smoke cigars as a child. However, these claims are dubious, given that Travis and Elisabeth split in 2010 and his mother was physically incapable of hitting him with belts due to her disability. She later even wrote a couple of YouTube comments debunking Daniel’s claims. Daniel had also been taken away by the state of Colorado for neglect because his mother struggled to care for him.
Daniel justified pushing his mother by citing these unverified claims of abuse, stating that she “cornered” him. Authorities were called, and Daniel was charged with 3rd-degree assault. According to his criminal record and Elisabeth’s claims, Daniel not only shoved her but also struck his wheelchair-bound mother.
Daniel asserted that his charges were “dropped” and the case “lifted” after he took unspecified legal action. However, this is evidently false, as the nature of the assault and his sentencing indicate otherwise. Ironically, Daniel expressed a desire to stop abuse against those with disabilities, seemingly overlooking his mother’s deteriorating health due to his actions.

Daniel: …an ambulance, without my family.

Daniel: Now, if you don’t call that a traumatizing experience, I don’t know what would.
[The video cuts]
Daniel: After – basically – 15 years of my parents hitting me with belts, my – dad asking me to, uh, smoke cigars as a child – I, um, decided to push my mother out of the way one time when she cornered me – when I was 18 – and they called that assault, and I went to jail for 45 days. *sigh*

Daniel: But if my mother-

Daniel: …was the one that was abusing me – my whole life – and never got in trouble and I get one thing to her and went to jail for 45 days.
[The video cuts]
Daniel: I did one thing, she did like 150 things.
[The video cuts]
Daniel: She should be the one to get the blame. In the end, [making finger-quotes] “god’ has a golden rule – treat other the way you want to be treated. So she actually well deserved that one thing for… what she did.
[The video cuts]
Daniel: I took this to court, and I told them. Believe it or not, they lifted the case because they listened to me. My mother still doesn’t have a restraining order and she should.
[The video cuts]
Daniel: It pisses me off that I get treated better by celebrities than my own family – better by my own fans – than my own family. [Looks side-to-side and eats a biscuit]
[The video cuts]
Daniel: I’ll be creating three movements: stop abuse with people towards disabilities, treat others the way you want to be treated, and stop abuse. Please help me spread the message.

Third-degree assault is defined as inflicting physical injury, whether intentionally, recklessly, or through criminal negligence. The fact that authorities were called suggests Elisabeth sustained enough physical abuse to warrant these charges and Daniel’s subsequent sentencing. Despite this, Daniel claimed she “deserved” the assault due to his unfounded accusations of her past abuse.
